A Few Quick Things

Hey folks — a few quick things that may be of interest:

This is the final week that Midnight Symphony, an anthology of novellas by some awesome writers (and me), will be available. This e-book anthology has largely been well-received, including a pretty great review on the FEARNET website, and many of these novellas are either unavailable elsewhere or extremely rare and hard to come by. If you were thinking of picking it up, this is the last chance. Available here for only $2.99!

A beautiful limited edition version of my short story collection, A Darkling Plain, is forthcoming. Details are on the way as soon as I can make them available.

I will likely be having short fiction appearing in a magazine, a chapbook, and an anthology in the next six months. Also, later in the year, there will be a new novel about ghosts, sort of, and an audiobook version of The Hollower. I’m excited about these projects. Details to follow.

Since next month is WOMEN IN HORROR month, look for interviews of me conducted by Gef Fox and also by Jeff Heimbuch for Lamplight Magazine. Also in February will be the release of my new novella The Fading Place by DarkFuse books. Those interested in preordering the book can get it for a discount now.

On Monday, Feb. 3, A WRITER’S LIFE will host one of the stops on the Les Daniels Blog Tour, celebrating the work of late Necon favorite, author Les Daniels. The incredibly witty Matt Bechtel of Necon E-books will be offering a guest blog post (“Witches, Victims and Gods: The Women of The Don Sebastian Chronicles“).

On Wednesday, Feb. 5th, I will have a new post up on Apex Publishing’s blog. Linkage will follow.

Finally, today (January 28) is my birthday, so if you’re waiting on an email/call/text/smoke signal/response to anything, I should hopefully be all caught up after today — Friday the latest.

New Appearances

I’ve been booked for a couple of upcoming appearances over the next six months, with more likely to be added. The Appearances page is current now; any new signings, Q&As, convention appearances, etc. that I will be doing in 2013/2014 will be added there as well as announced here.

So if you want to get one of my books signed, here’s where you’ll be able to find me (so far):

Book Signing, October 19, 2013, 2-5pm at Barnes & Noble
421 Arena Hub Plaza
Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702
Other authors in attendance who will be signing books as well are Brian Keene, Kevin Lucia, K.H. Koehler, Ron Breznay, Lorne Dixon, and John Koloski. (I will have paperback copies of Thrall, The Hollower, Found You, and The Triumvirate for sale).

I will also be making a Guest Speaker Appearance at Dancing With a Pen Workshop on July 2, 2014 in Morristown, NJ. This will include a presentation by me, followed by workshop participation and ms evaluation. Participation in this event is for teens only, I believe. Details to follow.

Chaos HC and Backlist Paperbacks/E-Books Available Now!

I’m pleased to announce my backlist is back in print!  You can purchase copies of the Hollower trilogy books and Thrall in both paperback and e-book.  Also, there are still a few copies of Chaos left available, if you’d like to pick one up before they’re all gone….

What’s New and What’s Available

For those with an burning desire to pick up something new to read (uh…by me, hopefully), then may I make some suggestions?

My short story “The Anathema Cell,” a horror/sf story collected in a lovely chapbook format from Camelot Books, is still available for purchase in either hardcover or softcover.

You can also purchase Is There a Demon in You?, which not only includes my novella Possessing Amy, but also three other excellent novellas by Brian Keene, Nate Southard, and Wrath James White.

From what I gather, one of my scariest/most haunting books to date, based on reader/reviewer feedback, is my novella, For Emmy, which is still currently available either as a hardcover or softcover through Camelot books, or as an e-book on Amazon.

A few copies (very limited in number, I suspect) of the Hollower trilogy omnibus, a gorgeous collection of all three Hollower books with the hauntingly perfect art of David Ho, are still available according to Camelot Books, as are a few copies (also, I believe, very limited in number) of the limited edition hardcover of Thrall, with Vincent Chong’s incredible cover art.

Speaking of Thrall, which still remains one of my personal favorites, you can buy the audiobook version or the e-book version on Amazon.  If you’re looking for a place to start with my work, I’d recommend this one.

I’ve also made some changes to the website, as you might have noticed if you peek at the menu bar to your right. Those little book cover images should make it easier for you to see/purchase my currently available books.

Regarding future work, Chaos, my newest (and probably darkest) novel is going into production and I think it should be out sometime in the fall, though I don’t have an exact date yet.  My novella, The Fading Place, should be out in February of 2014.  Following that will be two novellas (one is my first real foray into a monster classic, a werewolf story) and at least one if not two new novels.

And for those of you who have been asking, I’m proud to say negotiations are underway to bring you reasonably priced, accessible e-book and print versions of The Hollower, Found You, and The Triumvirate, However, this is still in negotiations and I don’t have anything close yet to release dates on them.

Also, a short story of mine will be collected in an upcoming anthology chock full of some really great writers.  More on that soon….

NECon and an Interview

Two quick things before I’m off for a weekend of fun and frolic at NECon:

Author Carl Alves conducted an interview with me which he recently posted. In it, I discuss The Hollower trilogy mostly, as well as influences and heroes. Check it out and let me know what you think. 😉

Also, as I mentioned this weekend, I will be attending the Northeaster Writers Convention (NECon). If you will also be attending, you can find me at the following events/programming:

8:00 p.m. Necon Remembers Rick Hautala

8:00 p.m. Meet the Authors Party (I will have Hollower trilogy books available to buy and get signed, or you can bring anything else you already have that you’d like me to sign.)

10:00 a.m. Don’t Do It Like That I: Newbie Mistakes I’ve Made
Chris Irvin, Bracken MacLeod, Mary SanGiovanni (M), Kristin Dearborn, Meghan Arcuri-Moran
(I’m moderating, so expect some good giggle-time. heh heh)

Or feel free to just walk up and say hi — I’ll be around all weekend.

Some Title Changes and Upcoming Books of Mine

Just for those of you keeping track….

The novella I just finished, Solomon’s Girls, is now called The Fading Place. Interested folks should look for The Fading Place to be available sometime during the first quarter of 2014. There will be details and fun stuff to follow.

Also, the novel I am working to complete this month which I had tentatively been calling Bridgewood I have now decided to call Chaos. It fits the story and overall themes much better. And there will be cute free swag when this book becomes available later this year.

So, to sum up, for those looking to pick up my newest stuff over the next several months, we have:

“The Anathema Cell,” chapbook, 2013
The Hollower Trilogy, omnibus, 2013
Chaos, novel, 2013
The Fading Place, novella, 2014
TBA novel (about aliens and monsters and conspiracies oh my!), 2014
TBA novella (possibly about werewolves), 2014

Spring Has (Almost) Sprung Update

Just wanted to post a quick update on currently available and upcoming works:

Right now, Thrall is available both as an e-book for Kindle and as an audio book.  While the hard cover version is more or less sold out, I will have copies with me to sell and sign for some upcoming appearances, to be announced soon.  F. Paul Wilson said of this book, “Thrall is a feast of both visceral and existential horror – the gut tightens and the mind reels. Mary Sangiovanni joins that select cadre of women writers who are ignoring the safe old tropes and pushing the genre in new directions.”

For Emmy is also still available as an e-book for Kindle.  Likewise, while I will have a few of the remaining paperback copies with me at upcoming appearances, this is essentially sold out in print form.  Reviewers have said this novella is “chilling, heartbreaking, and quietly terrifying,” “brilliant and terrifying…SanGiovanni’s masterpiece,” and “poignant and creepy as hell.”

Both are reasonably priced and my two personal favorites, so if you’re looking for something to read, check them out.

Hollowernew FoundYounew Triumvirate  The Hollower Trilogy will be reprinted in a single, superfancy superlimited edition hardcover single volume.  Details to follow soon, but I can say that I just signed and mailed back the sig sheets for this and it’s going to be a beautiful book.  As for paperback and e-book versions, I am attempting to get all of my backlist back in print in both paperback and e-book editions.

Regarding upcoming work for 2013, a chapbook of mine will be published titled “The Anathema Cell.”  I don’t have a solid release date yet, but I’ll post it as soon as I know.

Another novella which I am turning in to the publisher this week, titled Solomon’s Girls, is due to be published in hard cover, paperback, and e-book in the first quarter of 2014 as well.  Again, I’ll post release date details once they are confirmed.

A new novel (in my opinion, one of my best and scariest to date) is near completion and due to the publisher soon for publication this year.  It will be a limited edition hard cover.  This book is called Chaos (formerly with the working title of Bridgewood) and to celebrate its release, there will be some free stuff and fun stuff.

In the meantime, readers might find the Locations of Interest section of this website browse-worthy.  It features free background material, history, and urban legends surrounding the places mentioned in all the books listed above, including the new Chaos.

Rounding out the work load, there is an upcoming story to be collected in an anthology and another novel, still in the planning stages but likely loosely based on mummy and ancient alien conspiracy stories, due out in 2014.

As always, I’ll report more information when I can.  I hope you’re looking forward to these as much as I’m looking forward to writing/finishing them for you.

In the meantime, why not check out these me-places on the web for fun and frolic?

A Writer’s Life

Or you can check out some of the articles I have posted by following the links under Mary’s Nonfiction on the Web to the right of this post.

Thanks, as always, for your support of my work.  It means a lot.

Well, Hello, 2013!

Apologies for the lack of updates for a while.  Between the holidays and my sister giving birth to a brand new baby girl (my first nice), it’s been pretty hectic.  However, I wanted to post a quick update so folks know what to expect for the new year.

I’m working on a new novel I hope to have finished and turned in to the publisher by March.  It is the supernatural horror novel mentioned a in my last post.  This book will initially appear in LE HC, but hopefully I will have news soon regarding other versions as well.  I believe this year will see the audiobook release of The Hollower and a chapbook version of a short story called “The Anathema Cell.”  I’m working on plans for paperback versions of the Hollower trilogy — I’ll keep you posted.

You may have also noticed some updates to the website, particularly in the Locations of Interest section.  If you’re the type of reader who likes fun little trivia extras about your books, this section offers that and more for most of the novels and novellas where location is of some significance to the plot. In the Writer’s Life section, I’ve been blogging semi-regularly, mostly about life-stuff, if that interests you.  I’ve been trying to include blog posts specifically related to my life in the business, and how I’m functioning in it.

I’m looking to add to appearances this year at various conventions and events.  So far, I’m planning on the following conventions, but these are just plans.  When they are confirmed, the Appearances page will be updated with the details:

Marcon, Columbus, OH

WHC, New Orleans

NECon, Bristol, RI

I’d also like to do some readings and signings — details will follow.

I also wanted to say how much I appreciate the support of readers and fans who have bought, traded, discussed, reviewed, and spoke favorably about my work to date.  It means so much to know there are folks out there who are reading and enjoying my books.  I wish all of you and your loved ones a safe, healthy, happy, productive new year full of exciting surprises, happy accidents, beautiful sunsets, memorable moments, and cherished time spent with those you care about doing things that matter.  I wish you all peace of mind, time to relax, and good fortune.  Every year ought to be better than the last….

HOLLOWER Books Almost Sold Out!

Thunderstorm Books reports that there are only two remaining copies of the Hard Rain ($35) version of The Triumvirate left, so if you were waiting on picking up a copy, now would be the time to move on it.  Also, there are only two complete matching sets of The Hollower Trilogy (this includes The Hollower, Found You, and The Triumvirate).  You can contact Paul Goblirsch and make him an offer on these if you want to get them before they’re gone.  He also has a couple of “broken” sets or individual books available — this may be your last chance to match up your books.
